Reading an electronic DNI (or NIE) via NFC is possible using an Android or iOS mobile phone. The service allows access to the information stored in the chip and verifies its authenticity using the document's digital certificate.
Just like making payments with your phone in stores, YOiD uses NFC (Near Field Communication) technology to read the data from your Identity Document. You only need your DNI (or NIE) and your mobile phone.

The DNIe 3.0 (issued in Spain since 2015) includes a chip with NFC (Near Field Communication) technology, allowing it to be read by compatible devices such as mobile phones
For Android, the minimum version is 6.0 (version 9 or higher recommended) and the device must have an NFC antenna. For iOS, version 13 and an iPhone 7 or higher are required
The DNIe chip complies with European security and electronic authentication standards. It is used in payment systems, public transport, access cards, and more
It’s equivalent to showing your physical ID. Since the DNIe PIN is not required, the service only allows document reading, with no access to the private layer.
The NFC antenna reads the data stored in the DNI chip, which matches the visible information on the physical ID. Additionally, it validates the document with FNMT to ensure its authenticity.
The service is available to any user with a mobile phone and an electronic DNI (DNIe).
